Welcome to the webpage of the Sustainable Design group. This is a page for resources for our education in the area of SUSTAINABLE BUILDING DESIGN.
The LEED rating system by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) (
) is perhaps the most widely used program for verifying sustainably designed buildings. Private companies and government agencies utilize this rating system or create requirements using this system. There are other systems as well. The Living Building Institute developed the Living Building Challenge (
), perhaps the most rigorous building standard around. The National Institute of Building Science developed the "Whole Building Design Guide" (
Various states also have a Home Energy Rating System, more popularly known as "HERS". In the State of California, the California Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rating (
) to measure the energy efficiency of homes related to Title 24. This is covered under the California Code of Regulations.
